KEEPING THE KIDS ENTERTAINED DURING LOCKDOWN

Running out of ideas to keep the kids entertained while in isolation?

The weeks ahead will definitely be testing, we’ll have our good days and we’ll have our bad days but don’t lose hope – we have plenty of fun, low cost activities to keep your kids busy!

Build a bird feeder and watch the birds

The easiest bird feeder to make is made of half an apple, scooped out and stuffed with a mix of peanut butter and seeds. The birds will go wild for this! Encourage your kids to look out and recognise each bird, they could draw pictures of each bird they’ve seen that day and then research up about them to learn some more – this will definitely keep them busy!

Make rainbows

If you haven’t already done this, it’s a great one to do. Children are drawing and colouring rainbows at the minute to portray that everyone is together in this and they’re great to spot while out for your daily walk. But you don’t have to stop at paint of crayons. Why don’t you use cardboard and scrunched up crepe paper!

Make your own Playdoh

The possibilities are endless with playdoh, whether they want to make their own car, castle or even the bird they saw in the garden earlier that day, it’s pretty easy to make your own.

  • 2 cups of plain flour
  • 1 cup of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of oil
  • ½ to 1 cup of cold water
  • 2 drops of liquid food colouring

Mix the flour and salt then add the water, oil and food colouring. Knead well adding a little more flour if the consistency is too wet.

Pen Pals and Postcards

This idea will definitely keep your kid’s brains stimulated as they can practice their writing and their spelling all while having fun and keeping in touch with their family. Send a postcard to a grandparent or a cousin, telling them what they have been up to. The idea of having to post it will get them excited too.

But don’t worry if your kids have had too much tablet time or they have no routine at the minute, just remember they are safe, and they are loved.

You aren’t failing at anything – you are surviving everything!
