Aloe Vera

The extraordinary healing powers of the Aloe Vera plant make it an important ingredient in the Jackson Reece formula. The leaves contain a gel which has an immediate healing effect on wounds and burns, acting like a protective coating on the skin and accelerating the healing process. It’s also a mild anesthetic and relieves pain and itching, stimulating blood-flow to reduce inflammation, swelling and redness.

Aloe Vera is also beneficial for skin conditions such as psoriasis, acne and eczema as the gel acts as a gentle moisturiser. It removes dead cells and can reduce scarring, while aloe vera gels and sprays are also used in the relief of arthritic pain in the joints and muscles.

Ylang Ylang

Ylang Ylang is every bit as exciting as it sounds. Found in the flowers of the Candanga Odorata this ancient oil has been used by humans for thousands of years. Famous for its ability to retain moisture and maintain the skin’s natural balance, it has a gentle, calming odour and some rather helpful antiseptic properties.

Purified Water

There’s nothing more natural than water and we make sure ours is expertly filtered water to ensure there’s no harmful bacteria lurking - just pure, clean water.

Tea Tree

Hailing all the way from Australia, tea tree oil is extracted from the leaves of the Melaleuca Alternifolia. We bring it a long way to ensure its natural goodness can be used in our products, as this fresh, aromatic oil can benefit all types of skin and is a very important ingredient.

Chamomile

Reflecting the fruity apple-like scent of the plant, chamomile means ‘earth apple’, which is derived from the Greek word khamaimēlon. You might be more familiar with it as an herbal tea infusion, but as a natural treatment for eczema and psoriasis, this clever little plant is also worthy of being included in our wipes.

Almond Oil

Mightily beneficial, almond oil is revered when it comes to health, beauty and, well, life in general. It comes from a species of tree native to the Middle East, the Indian subcontinent and North Africa. The oil from its edible and widely cultivated seeds is rich in Vitamin A and is kind to skin pores and follicles as well as being good for sensitive skin.

All of the below chemicals are commonly found in cosmetics and toiletries, but you won’t find them in Jackson Reece products as they just aren’t very good for babies! This means that all our wipes and toiletries are ideal for use on those with delicate, sensitive or inflamed skin, as well as children suffering from eczema.

Alcohol

Alcohol strips the skin of its natural oils, often causing redness, irritation and inflammation. It can also stop skin’s natural ability to shed dead cells, which clogs pores. By leaving it out, our products are therefore ideal for use on delicate, sensitive or inflamed skin.

Parabens

These destroy bacteria, so they’re strong and aggressive and are consequently a common irritant that we don’t think should be near a baby’s, or indeed anyone’s, skin.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) & Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)

These are cheap, effective chemicals that can clean the skin, but they also strip it of its moisture, which aggravates sensitive skin.

Lanolin

This is a common ingredient in many cosmetics, but some people are allergic to it, so we left it out!

Benzoates

These are used to preserve cosmetics and as an antiseptic. They also can intensify the symptoms of asthma.

Phthalates

These chemicals make scents and colours last longer on the shelf, but some studies have shown that they can effect hormone levels, which we don’t think babies should be exposed to.

Methylisothiazolinone (MIT)

This preservative can cause allergic reactions and irritate the skin.

Propylene Glycol

This chemical stops water from escaping the skin, reducing its moisture factor. Studies show that it is not recommended for eczema sufferers.

Phenoxyethanol

This chemical has been banned by the French certification organisation Eco Cert.

Triclosan

An aggressive chemical used to control the growth of bacteria, this is regulated by the FOA and some studies highlight cancer concerns.

Petro Chemicals

This range of chemicals is derived from petroleum and so have no place in an environmentally friendly product.

Soap

Dries out the skin and can cause irritation.

Inspired by babies, for babies

Based in Co Armagh, Northern Ireland, Jackson Reece has been caring for babies’ skin since 2003 and takes its name from our first two sons. We thought this was fitting, as it was them who inspired us to launch the business, after all...
Back in 1999, our first son, Jackson, was born, but at just eight months old he developed baby eczema, which only worsened when we treated it with steroid cream. We didn’t realise this thinned the skin and destroyed the immune system. We then tried baby wipes, but these didn’t help either.
